Fixing inaccurate map pin positions

When adding small groups, events and sites you can specify their Location - prospective group members and event attendees will see a location map when viewing the public-facing group page and event page, and users will see your site locations plotted on Location reports.

For a variety of reasons, it's sometimes the case that location plotting is not sufficiently accurate, with map pins showing in the wrong position, perhaps over an incorrect address or building. This can happen when Google cannot determine the correct map pin position from the address details supplied. Additionally, some countries and regions experience issues where Google's map data for a region cannot plot addresses correctly e.g. new housing developments.

You can easily edit the map pin position for small groups, events and sites for these scenarios. ChurchSuite stores the updated longitude and latitude of the map pin position for the location. The system will also apply the custom log/lat pin position to all other events and groups that use that same location name and postcode/zip code.

Note

The Edit location options described in this article will only change the long/lat coordinates of the map pin position stored in ChurchSuite for the address in question. Moving the map pin will not change the location address. In this regard, the feature is not an "address finder/picker".

Small group locations

Where a group has a physical location and postcode/zip code specified, ChurchSuite plots the small group meeting location on a map, viewable on the Map tab of the group in the Small Groups module and on the public-facing Group page - select Go to group page to preview the group page and map. To change a group's map pin position, click the pencil icon in the top left corner of the map:

On the Edit map pin pop-up, you can zoom in, click and drag the map pin to the correct position on the map.

Once you are satisfied click OK and the new latitude and longitude references are saved against the group. If any other groups or events meet at the exact location and postcode/zip code, those map pin positions are also updated.

Calendar event locations

As with small groups, where an event has a physical location and postcode/zip code specified, ChurchSuite plots the event location, viewable on the Event page - select Go to event page to preview the event page and map. To change an event's map pin position, click the pencil icon found with the location and postcode on the Details tab.

On the Edit map pin pop-up, you can zoom in, click and drag the event map pin to the correct position. In the example below, the event already has a Custom Location - ie, the pin has previously been placed in the selected location; to revert the map pin to the Google Maps pin position, select Reset map pin position.

Once satisfied, click OK and the new latitude and longitude references are saved against the event. If any other events or groups meet at the exact location and postcode/zip code, those map pin positions are also updated, including other events at the exact location within the same sequence.

Site locations

Where a site has an address and postcode/zip code specified, ChurchSuite plots the site location on the Address Book Locations report.

To change a Site's map pin position, navigate to the Sites section of the Administrator area and select Edit location from the site actions.

On the Edit [Site] pop-up, zoom in, click and drag the site location map pin to the correct position.

Once satisfied, click OK and the new latitude and longitude references are saved against the site.
